Our customer, a cable company providing cable TV coverage in one of the world’s leading economies, selected OpenCloud Rhino to solve a very disruptive and hugely expensive equipment “end-of-life” (EoL) situation.

Faced with the prospect of an expensive, whole-sale upgrade of a large volume of geographically dispersed equipment, our customer elected to use Rhino as a real-time protocol gateway.

Our customer was able to produce a Rhino JAIN SLEE Resource Adapter (RA) to implement the protocol of the EoL equipment. This coupled with the low-latency, multi-protocol facilities of Rhino, meant Rhino could be used to perform real-time protocol conversion between the old and new protocols. The business case for the deployment of Rhino was simple – the cost of the replacement equipment alone made the case. In addition, the solution did not require a huge team of service personnel to swap equipment and an extended window of service down-time or parallel running that would also have been required. The Rhino cable protocol gateway solution is live.
