OpenCloud Featured as Key Provider in Motorola’s Convergence Ecosystem
May 23 2007, Schaumberg, Ill.
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced the companies that are part of its robust IMS ecosystem. By combining Motorola technologies with additional solutions from best-in-class providers, Motorola is able to offer its customers a best-of-the-best approach to IMS across multiple technologies, including WiMAX.
Within its ecosystem, Motorola builds the IMS control server that provides the call session control function (CSCF) and mobility/call continuity seamless mobility application servers, forming the heart of the entire ecosystem. Drawing on more than 16 years of multi-vendor switch integration experience, Motorola has also established a rigorous IMS interoperability and testing program.
Motorola’s third-party solution providers today include: Acme Packet; Apertio; Colibria; Iperia; IP Unity Glenayre; jNetX; NetNumber; OpenCloud; RadiSys; Sonus Networks; Sylantro Systems and Ubiquity Software. These companies provide Motorola’s convergent ecosystem with key standards-defined functionality such as session border control function, home subscriber servers, presence server, unified IP messaging, application feature servers for voice, meet-me conferencing application servers, media server and media resource function, media gateways and media gateway control function.
Motorola’s IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) solution is standards-based so the network can grow in the future, with fast and simple additions of new applications and servers within existing network frameworks. It is a complete ecosystem from application servers to the fixed CPE and mobile handsets, bringing an end to individual silo networks. Motorola delivers the complete convergence ecosystem as a single solution set through rigorous product management processes.
“We are pleased to work with leading solution providers who contribute to the success of our IMS ecosystem,” said Darren McQueen, vice president of IMS, CDMA and LTE broadband access technologies, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “IMS is key to maximizing the potential of WiMAX and other access technologies by enabling the full-fledged communications network for voice, data, video and multimedia experiences.”
IMS-based applications are also standards-based and offer carrier-grade quality of service (QoS). As service providers build large-scale wireless broadband networks, IMS is a key element in the delivery of carrier-grade QoS and mass application introductions. In addition to WiMAX, other IMS applications offered by Motorola include OMA PoC (open mobile alliance – push-to-talk-over-cellular), PTX (push to X includes push-to-view, push-to-video, push-to-hear, push-to-ask, push-to-play, etc.) and IPTV.
